It’s not all about doing abs exercises. It’s about doing everything including abs exercises. You must get that out of your head now. Getting abs takes persistence and dedication and a couple of crunches here and there are not going to get you to the promise land. It is necessary to focus on other things.
Why do you ask? Because abs exercises and work outs are meant to tone your abs. It doesn’t work to shave off the fat layer on top of your abs. You have to get that fat layer off first in order to see results and achieve your goal of getting flat abs.
Myth #2: Abs Exercises Lose Fat In My Stomach
This coincides with our first myth. Abs exercises do not contribute a worthy amount to losing fat in your stomach region. In order to lose fat you have to add in a combination of cardio and diet in addition to abs exercises.
Learn to love cardio. Cardio is any activity that brings your heart rate up such as jogging, cycling, running, or even skipping. The higher you raise your heart rate for an extending amount of time the more fat you’ll be burning. Try cardio exercises at least 4 days of the week, if you can’t get it in everyday.
Everyday would obviously be optimal, but 4 days should be the minimum. You don’t have to spend 2 hours a day doing cardio exercises, 30-45 minutes a day should be sufficient if you push yourself hard enough and get that heart rate up.
Of course it goes without saying, stay within your limitation and don’t push yourself that hard. If you are breaking a sweat, then you are at least burning some calories and fat.
Myth #3: Focus Only On The Abs For Flat Abs
You would think that since you want flat abs and don’t really mind the other areas of your body, the main focus should be the abs. However, this is not the case. You should involve a little strength training in your workout routine, focusing on other body parts. You should have strength training for the whole body and remember to vary your workouts by mixing it up.
Depending on your body type, body goal, and gender there are different strength workout programs you should abide by. These strength training programs will help you get the flat abs you’ve been looking for.
Myth #4: Only Eat Once or Twice a Day To Lose Weight
When people think diet, they think eating fewer meals a day is the optimal way to go. Well its not. When dieting to lose weight, you are trying to raise your metabolic rate. With that said, you should strive to increase your meals to 6-8 times a day, smaller meals. This is going to help raise your metabolic and shed pounds effectively and most healthy.
The obvious also come with the package. You should learn to cut down on junk food, by replacing it with more fruit and raw foods. Eliminate soft drinks and substitute that with water. Beer and alcohol also contribute to not being able to have flat abs, so this is something you may want to consider reducing, or eliminating as well.
Another small tip is you shouldn’t eat two hours before you try to sleep.
Myth #5: The Abs is Just One Big Muscle
When working out your abs, be sure to focus on specific areas of the abs. Don’t just do crunches and hope for the best. Target your upper and lower abdomen and work them out individually, giving special attention to them. Don’t forget to work your oblique (the side abs on your stomach).
